David de Gea, Man Utd's star player, is the Premier League Player Of The Month for the first time since Fraser Forster SIX YEARS AGO

It is the first time Degea has won this award in 11 years at Manchester United and the first time that a goalkeeper has taken home the SIX YEARS prize.

Southampton Fraser Forster, the last man between two sticks to win Player Of The Month in February 2019, was the Southampton shot stopper.

De Gea's January was exceptional, and he wins the gong, despite only keeping one clean sheet in four games.

Forster, on the other side, kept three clean sheets in four games to win the award.

United won two games, drew one, and lost one last month. But De Gea could have made it much worse.

In just four Prem appearances in January, the 31-year old made 22 saves.

He beat Jarrod Bowen Kevin De Bruyne Jack Harrison, Joao Moutinho, and James Ward-Prowse to win the Player of Month award.

January began with defeat for De Gea & United, . They lost 1-0 at home against Wolves. But De Gea's heroics in the sticks prevented the visitors running.

Next time against Aston Villa, the Spaniard was just as impressive.

De Gea could not have prevented a two-goal lead from being lost, but Steven Gerrard's side would most likely have won the match.

The Red Devils won 3-1 in West London.

De Gea's brilliant first half performance helped his side to reach the break at 0-0. The Bees could easily have been up by two or three points.

Thomas Frank, the Bees boss, said that his side had 'destroyed United within the first 45 minutes. However, they were held at bay by a series of fine De Gea saves.

De Gea completed January with a pleasing clean sheet at home to West Ham. His performance between the sticks provided the platform for Marcus Rashford, who scored a dramatic winner.

When he returns to action following the winter break, the keeper will want more to help United qualify to the Champions League.

The goalkeepers union hopes that it won’t take another six years before another shot-stopper is named Prem Player of Month.

Bruno Lage, Elsewhere Wolves' Manager of the Month, was awarded after his team won three consecutive games in January.
