Tennis: Dimitrow eliminates Alcaraz in Miami and meets Zverev

Bulgarian tennis professional Grigor Dimitrov surprisingly defeated world number two Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the Masters tournament in Miami. After a convincing 6:2, 6:4 in 1:33 hours, Dimitrow moved into the semi-finals and will meet the German Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, who had previously beaten Fabian Marozsan from Hungary.

Dimitrow took the first serve game from Alcaraz and won the first and second sets with a break, thus winning the match. Dimitrow and Zverev last faced each other in September last year at a tournament in Chengdu, China, when Zverez won in the semifinals. The 26-year-old from Hamburg has won seven of the eight duels against Dimitrow so far.

In the doubles competition, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz missed out on making it to the final. The German duo had to admit defeat in the semifinals to Ivan Dodig from Croatia and Austin Krajicek from the USA with 4:6, 7:6 and 7:10 in the match tiebreak.

The women's final has been decided, where the American Danielle Collins and Jelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan will meet on Saturday (local time). The unseeded Collins easily defeated Yekaterina Alexandrova from Russia 6:3, 6:2. Rybakina, seeded fourth, had more trouble against Viktoria Asarenka from Belarus and won 6:4, 0:6, 7:6.
