EU scandal: Bribes in the Christmas mail: The trail at "Qatargate" now leads to another country

Every July, Morocco celebrates the Throne Festival in honor of the royal family. There are fireworks and parades. King Mohammed VI holds a grand reception. And every year he takes the anniversary of his coronation as an opportunity to honor selected personalities for their services. In July 2013, an Italian politician also received the honor, a certain Antonio Panzeri.

At this time, the Italian still serves as a member of the European Parliament and heads the delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries. Today, around 10 years later, Panzeri is in prison in Belgium: he is accused of bribery, corruption and money laundering. In a way, Panzeri is seen as the spider that spun a web of corruption in the EU.
