In a fire letter to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), the city of Burg in Saxony-Anhalt called for more help with refugee policy. "In the past few months, we have increasingly reached the limits of our capacity," says the letter, which is available to the German Press Agency.

The integration of the people who have come since the first wave of refugees and their family reunification has not been successful to this day. In addition, there is a lack of money and sufficient teaching and support staff. The letter was signed by Mayor Philipp Stark (SPD) and the Chairman of the City Council, Markus Kurze (CDU). The district town is near Magdeburg.

It is warned that the asylum policy represented by the federal government is finding less and less acceptance among the residents of Burg. For example, people do not understand why the benefits for refugees are not provided in kind. In addition, the budget deficit is increasing and the city cannot rent any more buildings to accommodate asylum seekers and other refugees.

The city council therefore called for rejected asylum seekers to be returned, for the safe countries of origin to be expanded to include the states of Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Georgia, and for the EU's external borders to be more secure. In addition, the city of Burg is asking the Chancellor to consider the proposal by the Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer (CDU), to introduce a non-partisan commission.
