More than three months after the government's decision to postpone the second round of the municipal elections, epidemic, coronavirus requires, in the second round of municipal elections will be held on Sunday, June 28, in about 5 000 French communes. The municipal councillors are elected for 6 years, according to a mode of election to both majority and proportional, which depends on the size of the communes. Their number also varies according to the importance of the common : of 7 councillors for those with less than 100 inhabitants to 69 for those over 300 000. On 15 march, in the first round, the councils were elected in full in 30 of the 143 municipalities where the mayors and their deputies have been sworn in this week, after the scientific council has given the green light to install them.

A safety net, however, has been planned for every eventuality. The scientific council must give a new opinion on the health risks fifteen days before the election, to June 13. If he had to estimate that the conditions are no longer satisfactory to that voting could take place, the ballot should again be postponed. The voters should then revoter "no later than January 2021" for the first and second rounds of the municipal. A draft law in this sense was presented Wednesday in the Council of ministers in the name of the principle of " reversibility ".
