Sad news for fans of "Perry Mason": After two seasons, the crime series will not be continued. This was announced by the US broadcaster HBO.

The series, based on the fictional character by writer Erle Stanley Gardner (1889-1970), premiered on HBO in June 2020. The German language version was shown on the pay TV channel Sky Atlantic. "Perry Mason" takes place in Los Angeles in 1932 and tells the story of a private detective who investigates a child kidnapping in the context of a cult. Actor Matthew Rhys (48) played the leading role.

"We are incredibly grateful for the remarkable work of Matthew Rhys and the team in reimagining this historic subject," HBO said in a statement. "While there will not be another season of the series, we are very excited to be working with the brilliant creative team on future projects."

Critics had given "Perry Mason" mostly positive marks; The second season of the series recently received 87 percent positive reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes website.
