A Hollywood star for a rock great: Former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar is to be honored with a star plaque in Hollywood. The 76-year-old will unveil the 2,779th star on the "Walk of Fame" on April 30, the award's awardees have now announced. The US musician John Mayer (46, "Last Train Home") is invited as a guest speaker.

A California native, Hagar has been in the music business for over five decades. The rocker experienced his breakthrough as the singer of Montrose. In addition to a successful solo career, he had great times as the frontman of Van Halen, most recently playing with his bands Chickenfoot and The Circle ("Crazy Times").

This summer, Hagar and his long-time colleagues Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham are planning a tour together with guitar great Joe Satriani. The musician, known by his fans as the “Red Rocker,” is also a businessman with his own restaurant and beverage brands.

The "Walk of Fame" is a stretch of sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles where the star-shaped plaques are embedded. Since 1960, the stars have been awarded in categories such as film, television, theater and music.
