"Grey's Anatomy": A 20th season is coming - with Ellen Pompeo?

Joy for all "Grey's Antomy" fans: The popular US medical series will be extended by a 20th season. This is reported, among other things, by “Deadline”. Another piece of good news: in the new episodes, viewers apparently do not have to rely entirely on leading actress Ellen Pompeo (53), aka Dr. Meredith Gray abstain.

The US actress announced her departure after the 19th season last year – after a whopping 18 years. However, it was said that she would remain on the series as narrator and then return to Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital for occasional guest appearances. Those plans are now being put into action.

According to "Deadline", Krista Vernoff (51) will no longer act as showrunner of the series. As ABC has confirmed to Deadline, that post will be held by Meg Marinis starting in Season 20. Vernoff initially directed production on the series from 2007 to 2011 and then from 2017 through season 19.

According to "Deadline", it still seems uncertain how the current cast of the doctor's series will continue. Most recently, Kelly McCreary (41) announced her departure, who has played the role of Dr. Maggie Pierce played. The contracts of Kevin McKidd (49) aka Dr. Owen Hunt, Kim Raver (54) aka Dr. Teddy Altman, Camilla Luddington (39) aka Dr. Jo Wilson and Caterina Scorsone (41) aka Dr. Amelia Shepherd are also due to expire soon.

It is not yet known when the 20th season will start. Fans can watch the new episodes from season 19 on free TV on ProSieben from April 24, 2023. It starts at 9:15 p.m. on this date. Subsequent episodes will appear weekly at 8:15 p.m.
