German actor: Heinz Hoenig too weak for further surgery: planned heart procedure postponed

The family of actor Heinz Hoenig continues to fear for the 72-year-old's life. As broadcaster RTL learned from those close to him, he had to be flown by helicopter to a Berlin hospital on April 30th. There he underwent emergency heart surgery and a stent was inserted. "My husband is in a life-threatening condition. I have never been so scared in my life as I am now. All I know is I don't want to lose my husband. My husband is fighting to survive. I can only hope and pray that "We will win this fight together," said his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig in a telephone conversation with RTL on Friday. A second, major operation on the heart has not yet been able to take place. The actor is too weak. Doctors decide from day to day when the procedure can be carried out.

"I know that Heinz wants to live. There is nothing he wants more than to live. When I talk to him, he opens his eyes and nods," says Annika Kärsten-Hoenig. She hopes that her husband will recover - also for the couple's two young sons. Heinz Hoenig and Annika Kärsten met in 2018 and got married a year later. Their children were born in 2020 and 2022.

In addition to her health concerns, Annika Kärsten-Hoenig also reveals that her husband has no health insurance. The costs for the heart operation are said to amount to up to 90,000 euros. "I've been trying to get him health insurance for three years. I've really tried everything [...] Money isn't important to me. I just want to have my husband," says the 39-year-old.

To raise money, a campaign has now been started on the “gofundme” donation platform. “Due to Heinz Hoenig’s current critical state of health, we would like to ask for help!” it reads there. The fundraising goal is 50,000 euros. So far around 10,000 euros have been raised (as of Saturday 11:30 a.m.). The organizer of the initiative is Siegelring GbR, a Munich artist agency run by composer Ralph Siegel and his wife Laura. Siegel had hired Hoenig as one of the main actors in his new musical “A Little Peace”. The piece is scheduled to premiere on May 8th at the Deutsches Theater in Munich.
