Whether single-strap shoes, clogs or toe separators: all Birkenstock models have one thing in common: the comfortable footbed. The "anatomically shaped insole with special support elements" has been in use since the 1930s - and is still the trademark of the shoe manufacturer. In addition to the high wearing comfort, the now very modern and individual styles from Birkenstock have contributed to the fact that sandals in particular have become a must-have in summer. In addition to three popular classics, two new trend models await us this year. Read what these are below.

Neu: Tulum

The "Arizona", "Madrid" and "Gizeh" models have been among the most popular shoe trends for years. Nevertheless, Birkenstock never tires of bringing new colors and shapes of this trio onto the market: in 2023, the Tulum sandals with a wide leather heel strap that divides towards the front and crosses the foot will be big. Cream tones are particularly popular this summer, above all soft pink and beige - but of course Tulum is also available in dark colors such as black or bordeaux red.

Or: Ballerinas

For a long time there were no ballerinas from Birkenstock - but the wait was worth it: The shoe is also equipped with a comfortable footbed and is characterized by its simple elegance. Available in different colors and in smooth leather or suede, this timeless model aims to move the trend barometer up. The ballerinas can be ideally combined with tight skinny jeans, narrow skirts or even flowing fabrics.

The two-strap sandals from Birkenstock are equally popular among men and women: Like every sandal, the "Arizona" model is available in a wide and narrow version, depending on the nature of your feet. And of course, in addition to the leather classics, there are now also vegan counterparts (in different colors), so that there is a suitable model for every taste. Whether in plain black or in a sparkling metallic look, with a wild snake pattern or a shiny patent look: summer 2023 can come.

An equally popular model from Birkenstock is "Madrid" - and has been for many years: the single-strap came onto the market as early as the early 1960s, but at that time it was seen more and more in doctor's offices (due to its high wearing comfort). In the meantime, the former gym sandal has shed its ecological image and is one of the absolute trendsetters of the summer. Available for wide and narrow feet, the model comes in different looks: sometimes simple, sometimes striking, sometimes colorful and sometimes monochrome. And these sandals are also available with real leather or in a vegan version.

The Birkenstock counterpart to the classic flip-flop is called "Gizeh" and has also been one of the sandal trends for years - however, the first models were not waterproof. The shoe empire ironed out this disadvantage long ago and launched its own plastic series. If you still like the original better, you can choose between a range of different designs: with a wide buckle or a braided strap, in bright colors or with a patent look.
