Hundreds of students injured in new protests in India

Hindunationalistisk government has created intense anger with plans to marginalize India's muslims.

Violent protests against India's new statsborgerskabslov continues.

About 100 students and several policemen have been reported injured in clashes at two universities.

The new law has triggered riots and tensions in many places in the country, as it is seen as discriminatory against muslims.

the Law provides for the granting of citizenship to the buddhists, christians, hindus and sikhs, as, for example, fleeing from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. But it does not apply to muslims.

Islamic groups, opposition politicians and human rights groups say the new law is part of prime minister Narendra Modis hindu nationalist plans to marginalise India's 200 million muslims.

Thousands of people demonstrated in several places in north-eastern India on Sunday after several days of violent clashes.

New protests are expected on Monday. The unrest has claimed several lives so far.

Saturday, five people were killed in the indian state of Assam as a result of the unrest.

Thursday was at least two people were killed when police in northern India opened fire on protesters.

Prime minister Narendra Modi, who represents the hindu nationalist party, denies the allegations of marginalisation of the muslim minority in the country.

It is not clear on the contentious new legislation can survive in the supreme court, where the case has been brought by India's muslim association, which considers that it is in conflict with the country's constitution.
