Environment: EU Parliament: Unsold fashion must not be destroyed

The EU Parliament has voted in favor of a regulation according to which unsold clothing can no longer be destroyed. The MPs decided on Tuesday in Strasbourg that unsold electrical goods should no longer be allowed to be destroyed. In the future, such a ban could also apply to other categories.

The background is the so-called Ecodesign Regulation. It stipulates that products should last longer, be easier to reuse, repair and recycle and use fewer resources such as energy and water.

Accordingly, there will be digital “product passports” in the future that will provide buyers with more information about the sustainability of the items. This makes it easier to compare products and make more informed decisions, said a statement from Parliament.

The EU states still have to agree to the project. But that is considered a formality.
