Weather: Onset of winter in Britain brings traffic to a standstill

An onset of winter with snow and ice and stormy weather caused significant traffic delays in northern England and Wales on Friday. Motorists were stuck in the snow for several hours on the west-east axis of the M62 motorway, which runs from Liverpool via Manchester and Leeds to Hull, the British news agency PA reported.

A number of roads in Yorkshire and Wales have been closed. Train services between Manchester and Sheffield came to a standstill due to trees falling on the tracks. The reason for the wintry weather is the storm Larisa, which hit Great Britain on Friday night and in the morning.
