Travel Report 2023: Spring Fever or Dead Pants? How much sex the Germans have on vacation

Rising temperatures and sunshine awaken spring fever in many people. Statistically, this also increases the desire for sex. Nevertheless, many people are forgoing holiday flirting this year, as the “Travel Report 2023” by the market research company Appinio shows.

According to the representative survey, 26 percent completely abstain from sexual intercourse on vacation - regardless of whether they are traveling with their loved one or solo. Although 27 percent of the participants feel more like rolling in the sheets together on vacation, for most (35 percent) the travel time plays no role in their sexual desire.

How sexual the holiday turns out this year depends primarily on gender. While men tend to use dating apps more frequently (46 percent), women use such offers less frequently (19 percent) to fish for a holiday flirt. So it's no wonder that only 19 percent of men say they don't have sex on vacation, while 33 percent of women do not.

But of course sex is not everything, especially on vacation there are many other things that count. According to the survey, most people prefer to travel with their partner, children or good friends anyway. And it's all about having a good time together and getting to know new places and cultures.

But most holidaymakers are drawn to the sea (67 percent). 13 percent of those surveyed opt for a trip to the mountains or a city trip instead.

Combine the useful with the pleasant? Young travelers in particular dream of the workation trend. Of the 16 to 24-year-old respondents, one in three (34 percent) plans to move their place of work to the sea. However, this is probably also due to the fact that the younger generation is most likely to have the opportunity to fulfill this wish. 75 percent of baby boomers, on the other hand, state that workation is not even possible for them.

Even if they sometimes do without flirting on vacation, most Germans are planning at least one vacation this year (84 percent). More than half (57 percent) want to be on the road for at least two weeks with a budget of 500 to 1000 euros per person. And for families: the children have to come with them. Perhaps this is also a reason why some vacationers prefer to avoid sexual interaction altogether.
