Forecast: March ends with typical April weather

The last week of March is characterized by changeable weather in Germany. “A wave of cold air is currently giving us typical April weather in March,” said Sebastian Schappert from the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach. According to the meteorologist, there will be light frost on Monday night, particularly in some low mountain areas and in Alpine valleys. On Monday, the April weather was still affecting the northeast and east of Germany.

"Otherwise, an intermediate high influence sets in and the flow gradually turns back to southwest to south directions." This means that significantly milder air reaches the west. "The maximum temperatures are already rising to up to 14 degrees." However, light frost is expected again in some areas on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, according to Schappert, the sun will appear in many places as the intermediate high influence continues and the milder air will spread across large parts of the country. "This means that the maximum temperatures climb a little higher to up to 17 degrees in the southwest." On Wednesday, however, the foothills of a low pressure system will move in from the west over France and Great Britain, which will gradually cross Germany eastward by Thursday morning. “It is raining temporarily and the wind is also getting very gusty at times.” On Thursday the next low foothills will follow from the west, which will ensure a persistently changeable weather character with rain and wind.

According to Schappert, the Easter weekend promises mild weather. Temperatures could climb up to 20 degrees, especially in the southeast half. In the northwest it is expected to remain a little cooler at 15 to 17 degrees. Cloud fields and showers are always possible there. However, the forecasts for this period are still subject to uncertainty, according to the meteorologist.
