Emergencies: woman and child dead in the Weißer See - probably not a crime

After the discovery of two bodies in Weißer See in northern Berlin, the police are investigating the identity of the dead and the cause of death.

The dead woman and the dead little boy could have been in the water for several weeks, police said. According to initial findings, the woman and the little boy drowned. The bodies were autopsied. A homicide unit from the criminal police is investigating the case.

Police said there was no evidence on the bodies that either of them were killed by someone else. It was not initially known whether the sad find was a mother and her child. Although the police compared missing persons reports, the identity could not be clarified by Tuesday evening.

The two bodies were discovered by passersby around 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The fire brigade was then alerted. "Both could only be recovered dead," the fire department later tweeted. "It was a woman and a small child. We searched the lake for other people. No find."
