Donaueschingen: corpse found – police suspect father of professional footballer

After months of searching for the father of Magdeburg footballer Kai Brünker, a body was found on Thursday. There are many indications that a person floating in the water in Donaueschingen on Thursday was the 61-year-old man from Villingen, the police said. Corresponding identification documents were found, and the man's clothes also fit. An autopsy on Friday should provide certainty. There is no evidence of a violent death.

Walkers found the body on Thursday in the Brigach River in the Donaueschingen urban area in Baden-Württemberg. The fire brigade recovered the lifeless body, an emergency doctor could only determine death. Forensic scientists examined the location.

The man was last seen on the evening of December 23 in downtown Villingen, Baden. Since then he had disappeared without a trace. A larger search operation at the end of December, also with helicopters and police divers, was unsuccessful. There was another search at the beginning of March. More than 100 officers rummaged through a forest area in Brigachtal south of Villingen-Schwenningen, the police reported.

The missing person's son had asked the population via Instagram for information. Brünker comes from Villingen, he has been playing for 1. FC Magdeburg since 2020 and is a striker there.
