Saxony's government has confirmed that the armaments company Rheinmetall is interested in building a powder plant in the Free State. Rheinmetall's plans are still in their infancy, said government spokesman Ralph Schreiber on Tuesday after the cabinet meeting in Dresden. So nothing concrete can be said about the implementation. This also applies to the locations in question. These points are currently being examined and planned. Several media had previously reported about it.

"Basically, I can say that the state government is of course very happy about interested parties and companies that want to invest here, and also accompanies and supports them accordingly," emphasized Schreiber. Because of the ongoing talks, Rheinmetall did not want to comment on the details of the possible construction of a powder plant in Saxony - such as a possible start of construction or possible alternative locations.

According to the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, no rockets or cartridges are to be produced in the plant, but chemical precursors for ammunition. The Saxon Ministry of Economics has also confirmed the talks. "But these are not specific enough, numerous questions are still open," said a spokesman on request. The Saxon left-wing politician Sören Pellmann, on the other hand, expressed concerns: "As much as industrial settlements in eastern Germany are desirable, we as leftists are fundamentally opposed to the settlement of arms factories."
