A man was killed on the street in the Berlin district of Spandau. According to the police, several emergency calls were received around 3:20 p.m., whereupon the officers and numerous emergency services rushed to the crime scene in the Falkenhagener Feld district. There they found a man lifeless. “Resuscitation was unsuccessful,” the police said on Monday evening on the X platform (previously: Twitter).
After initial investigations, the police believe it was a homicide, and a homicide squad has taken over the case. The perpetrator or perpetrators are on the run. No details were given.
According to information from the German Press Agency, shots were fired and a stabbing weapon was possibly used. According to research by the newspaper “B.Z.” and "Bild" the victim is said to have been shot on the sidewalk from a moving car. According to this information, residents claim to have heard at least two shots.
Organized crime environment?
The police union (GdP) spoke of an “execution” and placed the perpetrators in the milieu of organized crime (OK). "This public execution today in Spandau shows us what people in organized crime are capable of," said the spokesman for the Berlin GdP regional association, Benjamin Jendro.
"Berlin is fundamentally a safe metropolis, but we have to speak clearly about the fact that in the competition within the OC, armed violence is often resorted to and that human lives are no longer worth anything."
The Berlin police themselves withheld information. “We are investigating in all directions,” said a police spokeswoman at the crime scene in response to a dpa request. The course and background of the homicide are unclear. The spokeswoman did not provide any information about the man's cause of death or the question of which weapons were used.
The perpetrator or perpetrators fled, she said. According to the police, there was no danger to other people. The crime scene was cordoned off with tape. In the evening, specialists from the police and forensics were at work on site in white protective clothing, and numerous other police officers were on duty. Police also used at least one drone to take aerial footage.
Emergency pastoral care on site

According to GdP spokesman Jendro, there have been increased clashes between members of feuding extended families, so-called clans, in the Spandau district in recent weeks. "Everyone knows that in these areas, even as a young guy, you are willing to do a lot to earn respect, recognition and power."
The term clan crime is controversial because, according to critics, it stigmatizes and discriminates against people with a migrant background based solely on their family affiliation and origin.
