Double European champion Gina Lückenkemper is currently not planning to start at the European Indoor Championships in athletics in early March in Istanbul. The sprinter only wants to take part if it suits her long-term preparation for the outdoor world championships in Budapest at the end of August. The World Cup is the highlight of this season for Lückenkemper.

"We're still keeping the whole thing open, it's not entirely out of the question," said the 26-year-old on Friday in Düsseldorf. There she will start again on Sunday (2 p.m.) over 60 meters for the first time since the European titles over 100 meters and with the German sprint relay. Thanks to the successes last August in Munich, the third place in the World Cup was recently voted Germany's sportswoman of the year.

Lückenkemper is starting the new year with great optimism. "I've never gotten through winter training so fit and healthy," said the native of Westphalia a few days after returning from her training group in Florida. She is initially planning indoor starts with the Istafs on Sunday in Düsseldorf and on February 10 in Berlin and a week later at the German Championships in Dortmund.

However, Lückenkemper also emphasized that the 60 meters are still too short for them, given their often weak start. However, she now wants to implement the progress made in training in competitions. Long jump world champion and Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo and pole vaulter Bo Kanda Lita Baehre are among the German stars starting in Düsseldorf.

Before the third edition of the meeting, the organizers announced that there should also be an Istaf Indoor in Düsseldorf in the next three years.
