Four people had to seek medical help after a regional train collided sideways with an ICE train while shunting at the main train station in Worms (Rhine Hesse). The train driver suffered a shock, a train attendant complained of circulatory problems, and two passengers had pain in their wrists and necks, said the Federal Police Inspectorate in Kaiserslautern.

One of the 13 wagons of the ICE 614 from Munich to Hamburg derailed due to the collision. There was only the driver on the regional train; the ICE was occupied by 520 people. According to the railway, the passengers should be taken to Frankfurt by bus. The cause of the accident and the amount of damage were initially unclear. Rail accident investigators from the Federal Police and the Federal Railway Authority were involved in the investigation.

Worms train station and the railway line between Worms and Frankfurt Airport were temporarily closed on Tuesday. According to a spokesman for the railway, traffic at the station should run again as planned on Wednesday.

The Deutsche Bahn emergency control center informed the federal police about the accident at 9:05 a.m. Many emergency services from the police, fire brigade, civil protection, emergency services and a helicopter from the Federal Police were in action.
