The driver and a 12-year-old were injured in the accident involving a van on Autobahn 81. The police said their vehicle left the roadway on Saturday afternoon and got into the green strip on the other side of the guardrail. The pickup truck overturned and lay on its side.

The vehicle was severely damaged in the accident shortly before the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen junction. The 44-year-old driver and his young passenger were slightly injured, but were taken to a hospital for examination. It was still unclear why the pickup truck left the roadway. A medical cause appears likely, police said.

A rescue helicopter was in action, three lanes of the A81 towards Würzburg had to be closed. There was a traffic jam of four kilometers at the top. The van was totaled.
