His rise through the ranks of community was initiated in 2006, of the hand of the then owner of Competition, Neelie Kroes. A graduate in Law and in Economic, Calviño arrived in record time to the director-general, the highest post in the administrative hierarchy in brussels. By his office spent matters as the reform of the financial sector, the Brexit, or the budget of the EU.

Calviño seemed destined to finish his career in Europe, where it opened the doors to any aspiration. But in 2018 hearkened to the siren song of politicians of Madrid and agreed to enter into the Government of Sanchez.
