The ski season in the Tyrolean Alps is on. At least that's what you hear from popular ski areas like the Stubai or Pitztal. In Kitzbühel, the operators have so far sold 16,000 season tickets - "an absolute record", says Sylvia Brix from the Bergbahn in Kitzbühel. However: Since November, more than ten skiers have had fatal accidents in the Alpine republic. That too is an absolute record.

The sad numbers are only partially related to the lack of athleticism of the Pistenwedler. Even if representatives of alpine clubs see things differently and even climate experts tend to speak of sports accidents. The rising temperatures and lack of snow are certainly also contributing.
