According to the mayor of the city, the demolition of the bridge created many jobs in the community. The bridge will be quickly rebuilt in its original form.

A spokesperson for the mayoral government told AFP that "it's the only way to the sea."

Koningshavenbrug bridge, which was constructed in 1878, was rebuilt after it was bombed by Nazis during World War II.

After a major renovation of the bridge in 2017, the local council pledged that it would not dismantle it again. e

Ton Wesselink, a local historian, stated that while jobs are important, there are limitations to what you can do with our industrial heritage.

According to the mayor's office, the bridge will be demolished in order to make it more economically viable for the city.
