The glaciers are all on the verge of disappearing in Canada ? The last platform of ice still whole, the platform Milne, disintegrated, reports CNN. Satellite images taken between 30 July and 4 August 2020, unveiled on Twitter by the canadian ice Service, illustrate this environmental disaster.
A piece of ice is approximately 80 square kilometres or 20 square miles more than the area of Manhattan, New York city – detached to the north of the platform located in Nunavut, in the canadian Arctic, forming several icebergs. "Whole cities have that size ", if alarm Luke Copland, a glaciologist from the university of Ottawa, from the National Post. The disintegration of ice shelves has disastrous consequences on the local ecosystem.
p>"The ice shelves in Canada will disappear in the decades to come,"
The pace at which warms the Arctic is two to three times higher than the global rate. "The platform Milne and the other ice shelves in Canada are simply more viable. They will disappear in the coming decades, " says Luke Copland in its press release.
The Arctic is warming much faster than the rest of the globe, a phenomenon known as amplification, polar, and these high temperatures lead to the melting of ice.
