Wales snatches world dream from Ukraine

Wales qualified for the World Cup in Qatar after beating the Ukrainian team 1-0. A 34th-minute own goal from Slav star Andriy Yarmolenko allowed the British to seal their ticket to the international event, the second they have attended in their history after participating in the 1958 World Cup. held in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Ukrainians had everything against them. Due to the invasion by Russia, the national championship was suspended in February and most of its players have encountered many difficulties in being able to exercise normally (as a team they could only play three friendlies before the playoffs). They beat Scotland

surprisingly last week but against Wales they couldn't finish the job.

Although the goal was Yarmolenko's own, the original shot (a lateral free kick) was by Gareth Bale who, once again, was the undisputed leader on the pitch at Cardiff Stadium, overflowing for such an important event. Yarmolenko tried to clear the shipment but ended up inserting it into his goalkeeper's net.
