The most anticipated event of the year begins in Sanxenxo. Today, Monday, June 13 at 8:00 p.m., the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo hosted the opening ceremony of the Xacobeo 6mR Worlds, a test that begins tomorrow with a total of 40 teams in contention representing 15 nationalities. The fleet, which already faced each other this weekend at the Rey Juan Carlos I El Corte Inglés Master Regatta, is preparing to fight over the next five days for the long-awaited world title in the 6 Meter class.
The opening ceremony began at 8:00 p.m. with a performance by the Music Band of the Escuela Naval de Martín touring the marina facilities from the slipway to the RCNS, where they were received by Telmo Martín, mayor of Sanxenxo; Ildefonso de la Campa, administration director of the Xacobeo; Daniel Arosa, Councilor for Social Services, Sports and Youth of the Sanxenxo City Council; and Pedro Campos, president of the organizing club.
Next, in the village, the reception for each and every one of the participating teams in the Xacobeo 6mR Worlds 2022 took place. Telmo Martín was in charge of welcoming the crews and he did so stating that “we are delighted to receive you and I hope that our hospitality and gastronomy will help you to compete offering the best of yourselves”.
“Exactly 988 days ago, on September 28, 2019, King Juan Carlos, whom we especially miss today, handed me a pennant that the mayor of the Finnish city of Hanko had given him to witness Sanxenxo as a city World Cup organizer. I just wish you all luck and I hope you take good memories of Sanxenxo”, concluded the councilor of the Pontevedra municipality.
Tomorrow the action begins
Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m., the Regatta Committee will give the start for the first test of the eight that are scheduled throughout the five days that the Xacobeo 6mR Worlds will last.
The two defenders of the title, Bribon 500 in Classics and Junior in Open, start as two of the favorites to win the world title, although both know that this time the fleet will not make it easy for them. The winners of the Rey Juan Carlos I El Corte Inglés Master Regatta this past weekend, the Romanian Essentia and the Swiss Momo, are two of the teams that also aim to be in the lead, as well as Violeta Álvarez's Stella, the the Portuguese Scoundrel One and Seljm and the British Battlecry, among others, within the Open division while in Classics the Finnish Astrée III by Ossi Paija, the Titia by Alicia Freire or the French Dix Août by Louis Heckly also stand out.
