The Illes Balears Clàssics recovers this year the three days of regattas

During the month of August, the Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta will turn the Bay of Palma into a beautiful show of classic boats sailing under full sail. The event, organized by the Club de Mar Mallorca, returns this year to its usual format with three days of regattas between August 11 and 14, after the competition was reduced to two days in 2021 due to health restrictions. This is the edition of the return to normality and the test calendar also recovers its usual program of social events after two years of limitations.

The rate of registrations suggests that, at least, the participation figures of previous editions will be repeated with around twenty boats in competition.

The participation in this year's Illes Balears Clàssics has already been confirmed for boats that are taking part in the event for the first time, such as the Portuguese Sea Lion, a sailboat built in 1952 at the Abeking shipyards

The Commodore of the Club de Mar, Manuel Nadal, highlights the entity's commitment to maritime heritage: “We are very interested in helping to conserve and promote this type of sail. These are historic boats, which are very difficult to maintain and we believe that regattas such as the Illes Balears Clàssics are key to helping spread this work and that the general public also has the opportunity to get to know and enjoy it”.

The first day of the regatta, which celebrates its 27th edition this year, will serve to celebrate the welcoming ceremony for the participating crews and complete the previous registration and measurement procedures. Days 12, 13 and 14 will be for regattas. It will be then when we will be able to contemplate in all its splendor, sailing the sea, the jewels of navigation that will participate in the event. The 14th will also serve to put an end to this year's Illes Balears Clàssics with the trophy delivery ceremony in which the best boats of this edition will be recognized. For the first time, on this occasion the core of the regatta will be concentrated in Pier 7 of the Club de Mar. There the boats will be moored, the regatta office will be there and all the social events will take place in what will be the new nerve center of the Balearic Islands Classics.

Every day of regattas there will be coastal voyages through the Bay of Palma, so it will be easy to have the opportunity to enjoy this journey through the maritime historical heritage of all the countries represented in the race from the coast. The organization has divided the competition into four classes: Vintage, Classics, EDT/RI Classics and the Big Boats, large boats over 23 meters in length. In addition, a special section has been created, called Presence, which will house vintage and classic boats over 50 years old, which will be present at the club enjoying the event, without participating in the tests.

The Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta is part of the Trofeo Clásicos Mare Nostrum - Spanish Classic Sailing Circuit, made up of five events this year for the first time, after joining the Costa Brava Classic Sailing Regatta, organized by the Club Náutico Estartit, in Gerona .
