The Citadel's loss to the Blue Devils (107-81) was delayed when Baucom fell on the bench. He had to be helped from the court
Duggar Baucom, the Citadel coach, collapsed on Monday night after his team's match against No. 5 Duke began in Durham, North Carolina. According to reports, he was transferred to Duke University Hospital in order for more evaluation.
Baucom, 61 collapsed between his bench and the scorer's desk just 63 seconds after The Citadel scored their first basket of the evening. After receiving medical attention from the sideline, Baucom was helped off the court and given additional medical assistance at Cameron Indoor Stadium. He was then taken to the hospital.
Following Duke's victory against the Patriots (107-81), Castleberry gave an update on Baucom. Castleberry, the Citadel's chief of staff, gave an update on Baucom.
Castleberry stated in his postgame press conference, "He's as good and as talented as he can," Castleberry stated that he is in good spirits.
The Citadel broke a new mark with 18 3-pointers made in the loss effort. This was the most by any opponent at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Duke allowed 81 points against nonconference opponents, the highest score Duke allowed since Illinois' 83 season ago.
Baucom has been The Citadel's coach since 2015. He is currently 67-119. Baucom is coming off his first win season at The Citadel and has led the team to a 3-1 start in the 2021-22 season.
