Aston Villa has reached a deal with Sevilla to sign Brazil's centre-back Diego Carlos for PS26m.

Newcastle United attempted to sign the 29-year old in January. He will fly to England for a medical appointment and to settle personal terms.

Villa would make him the second summer signing after Boubacar Kamara, who arrived from Marseille on a complimentary transfer.

Carlos was present six times at the Tokyo Olympics last year, where Brazil won gold.

"Sevilla FC would love to thank the player during all these years at Seville and wishes them the best in their new journey," read a statement by the La Liga club.

Steven Gerrard, manager of Aston Villa, recently confirmed that central defender EzriKonsa will miss the start to the next season due to a knee injury.

Villa finished 14th in last season's Premier League. Philippe Coutinho also signed a four-year contract with Villa.
