It was in the year 1961, when Hermann Salomon joined at the age of 23 years, the USC Mainz. For almost 60 years he shaped there and then the athletics. The native of Gdansk counted in the javelin to one of the best athletes of his time, took part in the years 1960 to 1968, and three times in the Olympic Games and also gained in the pentathlon national championship title. His best performance with the old spear, proud 83,48 meters, marked in the year 1968 a new German record.
For his achievements and for his exemplary attitude, Hermann Salomon in 1971 with the Rudolf-Harbig memorial award, the highest athlete award of the German athletics Association (DLV), was excellent. "He was and is until today one of our most successful athletes," says Harry Letzelter, Athletic Director of the USC Mainz, opposite the Portal "sports from Mainz". the dedication of Solomon for the Sport in General and athletics was, in fact, in Particular at least as remarkable as his achievements on the court. Trained as a teacher for English and sports, he turned to finally intense the sport pedagogy and worked in this field for several decades as a Professor at the Johannes Gutenberg-University. His javelin Expertise, he was, until Recently, as a Trainer and consultant, among other things, to athletes such as decathlete Kai Kazmirek (LG Rhein-Wied) and the world Cup-Sixth Julian Weber (USC Mainz).
Hermann Salomon passed away last Thursday at the age of 82 years after a long and serious illness. His life's work, however, has worn long since in the world fruits, and the athletics will join in the future.
