The Senegalese world Cup Hero Papa Bouba Diop has died after a long illness. The former Premier League players was only 42 years old. As the "Mirror" reported, should Diop be ultimately passed away of the consequences of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

At the 2002 world Cup Diop had made a name for himself, as he had made the acclaimed winning goal in the opening game against France. The former world champion had to retire ultimately in the group stage. Senegal marched, carried by the Surprise Coup, to the quarter-finals.

Diop denied a total of 63 matches. In addition, the world Cup Hero kicked, among other things, in Switzerland, England and France.

"We talk to his loved ones our deepest condolences," wrote his former club, RC Lens, on Twitter.

Also, FIFA has said goodbye to Diop. "Once world Cup Hero, always a world Cup Hero", paid tribute to the Association of the sensational performance of the Senegalese for his country.
