WM-Aus der DFB-Elf: "... and in the end Germany wins if..." - Gary Lineker updated his famous saying

The former English national soccer player Gary Lineker modified his most famous saying after the German embarrassment at the World Cup in Qatar. "Football is a simple game. 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and in the end the Germans always win," he wrote on Twitter, adding: "If they make it through the group stage." He also posted a video in which he and the two British ex-professionals Micah Richards and Alan Shearer burst out laughing.

Lineker was the record goalscorer with the English national team once in a World Cup semi-final, has long worked as a TV expert for various broadcasters and is known for his often not entirely serious jokes. Most recently, he judged Qatar's capital Doha: "It's like New York by the sea." All World Cup stadiums of the controversial tournament are located in the greater Doha area.
