What's next for Lukaku? Negotiations between Inter and Chelsea

Last summer, Chelsea decided to loan Romelu Lukaku back to Inter. Since then he has been absent from the Nerazzurri but injured with a few exceptions. There will be new talks in the near future.

It was a financial masterpiece on the part of Inter: in the summer of 2021, Romelu Lukaku was sold to Chelsea for a whopping 113 million euros - only so that he scored less often than hoped and at the same time kept raving about the Italian club and a hoped-for return.

The Blues lent him back a few months ago for a rental fee of almost eight million euros. A good deal for Inter, who can now rely on the attacker again.

At least in theory: Because apart from a handful of missions, he has been out for a few weeks, since the end of August, with a thigh injury. An interim, very short comeback showed little progress. But then another injury in the hamstring muscle followed. It will probably be a while before the Belgian can play the full 90 minutes again.

"We will wait for him after his new injury," Inter boss Giuseppe Marotta made clear (via Fabrizio Romano). "There are a lot of injuries at Europe's top clubs at the moment after so many games. We'll wait for him."

It's also about the loan, which is still quite young, but will expire in the summer. While Chelsea aren't really keen on Lukaku's return, the Italians would like to keep his faith.

According to Fabrizio Romano, renewed talks between the two clubs are set to take place in the coming months. The envisaged and at the same time probable goal: the loan should be extended by another year.

It would also be the optimal outcome for Lukaku himself. He has often made it clear that he sees no future for himself in the Blues.
