Golf pro Marcel Siem has won another tournament on the DP World Tour after more than eight years. The 42-year-old from Ratingen narrowly beat Mannheim's Yannik Paul (275) and Joost Luiten from the Netherlands (276) at the Hero Indian Open in New Delhi on Sunday with a total of 274 strokes.

Most recently, Siem won in November 2014 in Shanghai on the former European Tour. For his fifth victory on the tour, the veteran received prize money of 340,000 US dollars.

"It's crazy. It means a lot to me. Two years ago it wasn't clear that I would even be able to play here again," said Siem, who led Paul for three rounds with a strong 68 final round in the two million US dollar endowed event at DLF Golf

Longer dry spell

For Siem it is the highlight after a long dry spell in sport in recent years. At the end of 2020 he lost his permanent eligibility to play and then played mainly on the Challenge Tour. The Rhinelander fought his way back a class lower in 2021, won a tournament in northern France and was thus eligible to play in the British Open, where he surprisingly finished 15th.

It was Siems 502nd tournament participation on the DP World Tour or earlier European Tour. The golfer, who now lives in Mauritius, had his premiere in 1998 at the German Open in Berlin and his first victory in 2004 in Johannesburg.
