Tournament in Brazil: Volleyball players continue to be successful: Another victory for the Olympics

The German volleyball players have come another step closer to direct Olympic qualification. The team led by star attacker Georg Grozer confidently defeated the Czech Republic 3-0 (25:23, 25:18, 25:17) at the qualifying tournament in Rio de Janeiro.

A win from the last two games in Brazil would guarantee the team one of the two tickets for Paris 2024. The Germans are at the top of the table with five wins from five games. It would be the first Olympic qualification for a selection from the German Volleyball Association since London 2012.

The fifth game in seven days was “exhausting,” said outside attacker Ruben Schott, but “we are playing very well and it’s a lot of fun with the boys.” The most successful attacker was once again Grozer with 14 points. The team will face Qatar in their next game early on Sunday morning German time (1.30 a.m./VBTV).

All teams play against each other once in three groups of eight in Brazil, China and Japan. The top two teams in each group will receive tickets for next year's Summer Games. Germany went into the tournament as an outsider, but with two surprising victories against world champions Italy and hosts Brazil, they put themselves in an excellent starting position.
