Tour of Spain: professional cyclist Uran wins 17th stage of the Vuelta – Roglic gets out

Professional cyclist Rigoberto Uran secured victory on the 17th stage of the 77th Tour of Spain.

After 162.3 kilometers from Aracena to Monasterio de Tentudia, the 35-year-old Colombian prevailed in the sprint of a breakaway ahead of Frenchman Quentin Pacher and Jesus Herrada from Spain.

The Slovenian defending champion Primoz Roglic, second in the overall standings, was no longer able to compete in the stage of the day with the mountain finish at 1100 meters due to the consequences of his fall the day before. The Slovenian had neither broken anything nor suffered a concussion. However, the bruises and the associated pain are too great for Roglic, said the sports director of the Jumbo Visma team, Addy Engels.

Evenepoel ahead of overall victory

Remco Evenepoel drives towards the Vuelta victory. The Belgian now leads the overall standings by 2:01 minutes ahead of Spaniard Enric Mas. Third is Mas' compatriot Juan Ayuso Pesquera, already 4:51 minutes behind.

On Thursday the 192-kilometer section between Trujillo and Alto de Piornal with three mountain classifications is up for the field of riders. The race ends next Sunday in Spain's capital, Madrid.
