Alexander Zverev returns to the German Davis Cup team in the qualifying match against Switzerland.

The tennis Olympic champion leads the team of team manager Michael Kohlmann for the match on 3./4. February in Trier, as announced by the German Tennis Association. Oscar Otte, Jan-Lennard Struff and Tim Pütz are also available, who want to qualify for the intermediate round like last year.

Kohlmann left the fifth place in the team open. Normally, doubles specialist Kevin Krawietz would be set. The 30-year-old will be a father for the first time at the end of January and will therefore not be present at the Australian Open, which begins on January 16th. His involvement in Trier is therefore still uncertain.

"In view of the fact that the season has only just begun and the Australian Open is just around the corner, I have decided to initially nominate only four players in order to be able to react flexibly to developments in the coming weeks," explained Kohlmann his decision.

Zverev last played in the Davis Cup qualifier in Brazil at the beginning of last year. For the intermediate round in Hamburg and the final round in Malaga, the German number one was injured. Although Zverev is still looking for his form after the long break, he still wants to be there in Trier. "We have proven that we can keep up with the best teams in the world in all constellations. With Alexander in the team we will improve our chances even more," said Kohlmann.
