According to a survey on the frequency of yoga in their free time, an average of 3.1 million people in the German-speaking population (aged 14 and over) practiced the sport regularly in 2021. Statistics also show that the number of those who do yoga only occasionally is increasing every year. But why is that? After all, this sport is primarily about relaxing - which inevitably means that many people with reservations about the Indian philosophy associate yoga "only" with sitting around and meditating. Above all, the exercises help to feel fitter - and that can be not only mentally but also physically exhausting. It is all the more important that you wear comfortable clothing when doing yoga.

First things first: Of course, you can also do your exercises in ordinary sportswear, even without a yoga label. But why do you actually need a special yoga outfit if the normal baggy lock is sufficient? Quite simply: The materials are often too thin or thick, slippery or poorly made - with some exercises (or even hot yoga) this inevitably leads to you sweating heavily or your clothes starting to pinch. So before you have to tweak your outfit all the time, here are a few things to keep in mind:

The most important accessory in yoga is of course the mat. There are thin and thick models, short and long ones. For this reason, you should think carefully about which factors are particularly important to you before making a purchase. A thick yoga mat naturally cushions your body better, but a thin one is better for balance exercises.

Because most yoga mats don't absorb sweat, many devotees place a towel on top. When buying, be sure to choose a model that is non-slip on one side and dries quickly on the other. This gives you a better grip on the mat if you move a lot on it or sweat a lot.

For yoga beginners, the purchase of a yoga block is recommended. It is used when supporting or lying down, but can also be used as a seat or additional weight. Some models are made of natural materials such as cork, while others are made of hard foam. Here you can choose between different sizes or you can buy a set right away.

If both variants are too hard for you, but you still need support during yoga, you can also switch to a pillow. The special yoga cushions are filled with spelled, among other things, and can therefore be adjusted to the desired seat height by removing some spelled. The cover is made of cotton and can therefore be washed if you sweat a lot during yoga.
