Sports policy: DOSB starts process for possible Olympic application

The German Olympic Sports Confederation has started the strategy process for a new German bid for summer or winter games. As the DOSB announced, the "Olympic Application Office" has started its work.

Head of the five-member body is Stephan Brause, who was previously head of the DOSB executive office. Brause was significantly involved in the development of the timetable last year, with which a possible application should be prepared in the next two years, it said.

With the start of the strategy process, the basis for a renewed Olympic and Paralympics candidacy should be created. Most recently, Munich for 2022 (winter) and Hamburg for 2024 (summer) were unsuccessful with their Olympic attempts.

The population should be involved in plans

When the DOSB starts again, a concept for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Germany is to be developed for the first time with the population. The costs of the one-year preparatory measures of around 960,000 euros are borne by the DOSB. In contrast to other attempts, no more cities should apply themselves as venues. Rather, the DOSB will explore which cities could be the most successful applications. Candidates would be conceivable for the 2034 or 2038 Winter Games and for the 2036 or 2040 Summer Games.

The DOSB has also staffed the "Olympic Application" steering committee. The Federal Ministry of the Interior and the DOSB are joint leaders. The committee will include representatives of the DOSB member associations, the Athletes' Commission, the German Disabled Sports Association, the German Association of Cities, the Conference of Sports Ministers and the German Sports Aid.
