Olympic champion and world champion Christopher Grotheer finished second at the Skeleton World Cup in Lake Placid.

The 30-year-old from BRC Thüringen was only beaten by Brit Matt Weston by 16 hundredths of a second in the race in the USA on Friday. South Korea's Jung Seunggi finished third.

After the first run, Grotheer was in fifth place at the same time as Axel Jungk (BSC Sachsen Oberbärenburg), who placed second at the Olympics. Jungk ended up fifth, Felix Keisinger (WSV Königssee) eighth.

Lake Placid is the last of a total of three World Cup races in North America before it continues in Europe in Winterberg in January.
