Jarl Magnus Riiber also won the Nordic combined mass start competition in Ruka, Finland. The Norwegian prevailed in the rarely played format ahead of Matteo Baud from France and Ryota Yamamoto from Japan.

Julian Schmid took fifth place as the best German. "The conditions were a bit special today, but my jump was still very good," said Schmid, who was 21st in the cross-country race.

In Manuel Faißt in sixth place and Eric Frenzel in ninth place, two other athletes from national coach Hermann Weinbuch's team made it into the top ten athletes. Schmid, who won at the season opener on Friday and finished second on Saturday, defended his lead in the overall World Cup just ahead of Riiber.

Unlike in most other Nordic combined World Cup competitions, the athletes first competed in a ten-kilometer cross-country race. The decision was then made during the subsequent ski jumping. Normally you jump first and then run.
