Robert Lewandowski has revealed what happened during his little argument with Lionel Messi in the Poland-Argentina game.

The Albiceleste won 2-0 on Wednesday to secure first place in Group C. Poland advanced to the next round on goal difference over Mexico, but tried not to pick up bookings during the game as it was a long time it looked like a fair play tiebreak with Mexico could come into play.

During the defeat, Lewandowski pulled down Lionel Messi on the halfway line, but when he tried to apologize, the current Barcelona striker was ignored by his predecessor.

Speaking to the media after the game, Lewandowski revealed he was able to speak briefly with Messi.

"We talked a bit and it was funny. I told Messi that he plays more defensively than usual - but sometimes that's what the team needs," said Lewandowski. "The incident was very strange, yes: I was in the middle of the pitch defending because I knew I had to help the team."

Lewandowski, who scored his first World Cup goal in Poland's win over Saudi Arabia, meets France in the round of 16 on Saturday. The winner will face either England or Senegal in the quarter-finals.

Messi's Argentina meet Australia on Saturday, who edged out second-place Denmark and Tunisia in Group D.
