Key scene of the top game: A huge goalkeeper mistake breaks BVB's neck

The usual ranking in the Bundesliga has been restored. FC Bayern Munich is back in first place after beating Borussia Dortmund 4-2 at home. After one matchday at the top, BVB fell back to second place - a perfect debut for the new Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel.

The key moment in the clash between the top two clubs came in the 13th minute. Until then, the 75,000 spectators saw a duel at eye level.

After a long ball from Bayern's Dayot Upamecano defense, Dortmund's goalkeeper Gregor Kobel comes out of his box and hits past the ball at the edge of the penalty area. The ball rolls over the line, Kobel and BVB on the ground. The fatal thing: Kobel could have taken a moment more time and picked up the ball with his hands almost unhindered.

Mistakes happen - and in the event of a 4-2 defeat it would be presumptuous to attribute the debacle solely to Kobel's mistakes. But the truth also belongs: After the hopeful start to the game, BVB hardly managed anything afterwards. FC Bayern was able to trick their way through the Dortmund defense almost at will, there was hardly any resistance or even shots on goal by the black and yellow. Consequently, in the phase after the 0: 1, the 2: 0 and the 3: 0 quickly fell, each through Thomas Müller. Kobel did not cut a good figure when he conceded the third goal either: he did not adequately deflect a shot from Leroy Sané to the side - directly in front of the goalscorer's feet. The top game was as good as decided after 23 minutes, BVB could not recover from the setbacks.

So it was logical that Kingsley Coman put the lid on it 4-0 in the 50th minute and robbed BVB of any hope of turning the game around after the break. Emre Can's penalty to make it 4-1 (72') and Donyell Malen's goal to make it 4-2 (90') were only cosmetic results, especially since the Munich team still had a few opportunities to extend their lead.

After a convincing performance, Bayern celebrate their return to the top of the table - also thanks to a weak defensive performance by BVB and a pitch-black day by Gregor Kobel.
