Home game in Oberstdorf: Wellinger in sixth place in ski flying

Andreas Wellinger took sixth place as the best German at the ski flying home event in Oberstdorf. The 28-year-old flew 219.5 and 223 meters.

The Slovenian Timi Zajc secured victory ahead of his compatriot Peter Prevc, who is ending his successful career at the end of the season. The Austrian Stefan Kraft, who leads the overall ski jumping rankings, came third.

“I have found the balance better,” said Wellinger on ARD. "I'm particularly happy with the second round and I'll continue with that tomorrow." National coach Stefan Horngacher saw it similarly. “The last jump gives us hope,” he said.

However, things went very badly for local hero Karl Geiger. The 31-year-old ski flying world champion from 2020 already failed in the qualification. “Sometimes ski jumping is difficult and can leave you at a loss. But we always find recipes,” said Horngacher.

As the second best German, Philipp Raimund landed in 14th place with flights of 213.5 and 220 meters. Pius Paschke came 21st, Stephan Leyhe took 23rd place. “The Slovenians are currently showing us how it works,” said ARD expert Sven Hannawald.
