The German national ice hockey player Moritz Seider has won the first game of the new NHL season with the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit won 3-0 (0-0, 0-0, 3-0) against the Montreal Canadiens.
Under new head coach Derek Lalonde, Seider, who was named NHL Rookie of the Year last season, got his usual ice time and was very active with six shots, five hits and two blocks. Elmer Soderblom gave the Red Wings the lead early in the third period, while Michael Rasmussen and Olli Maatta each found empty Canadien goals just before the end.
Nico Sturm and the San Jose Sharks, on the other hand, are still waiting for their first win after the third game of the season. The Sharks lost 2-1 (1-0, 0-1, 0-1) to the Carolina Hurricanes.
