Four Hills Tournament: Wellinger and Geiger in front at halftime in Oberstdorf

Andreas Wellinger and Karl Geiger are in good shape after the first round of the opening competition at the Four Hills Tournament. After his jump of 135 meters, Wellinger is fourth in the second round.

The violinist from Oberstdorf is fifth in the ski jumping spectacle in his home country. The Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud is in first place. In changing wind conditions, three other German jumpers, Philipp Raimund, Stephan Leyhe and Constantin Schmid, reached the second round of the top 30 athletes.

Eisenbichler retired

For Markus Eisenbichler, on the other hand, it was already over after the first round. With his jump to just 115 meters, the three-time world champion from Seefeld in 2019 was eliminated in a knockout duel against Fatih Arda Ipcioglu of Turkey. Eisenbichler is not in shape at all this season. The early end on the Schattenbergschanze was another low point.

"The constitution is wrong at the back and at the front," said Eisenbichler on ZDF. "I have to talk to the coaches to see if it makes sense to continue torturing yourself." Pius Paschke from the German team also missed the final round.
