Formula 1: Hamilton ahead of Verstappen in the final training session in Hungary

Record winner Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap in the final practice session before the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver, who has already won eight times in Budapest, relegated Formula 1 leader Max Verstappen to second place. Third was Verstappen's Red Bull teammate Sergio Pérez ahead of Nico Hülkenberg in Haas.

However, the times are only meaningful to a limited extent because the teams were using very different tire strategies. Manufacturer Pirelli is making two sets of tires less available to all racing teams this weekend. In qualifying on Saturday afternoon (4 p.m./Sky), a test will determine which rubber compounds the drivers are allowed to use in the various sections. This should contribute to the sustainability of the racing series.

Before the eleventh round of the season on Sunday (3 p.m. / Sky and free of charge at skysport.de), Verstappen leads the overall standings by a wide margin over Pérez. The double world champion has recently won six races in a row.
