Professional cyclist Phil Bauhaus won the third stage of the 59th edition of the Tirreno-Adriatico long-distance race and became the first German rider to win a World Tour race this year.

The 29-year-old sprinter narrowly prevailed on the 225-kilometer section in the middle of Italy in Gualdo Tadino ahead of the Italian Jonathan Milan and the Frenchman Kevin Vauquelin.

Bauhaus had already won a stage of the long-distance journey in 2022. There were several falls in the final sprint. The Belgian Jasper Philipsen, who won the day on Tuesday, was also affected. Bauhaus' teammate Nikias Arndt finished tenth after the hilly stage. The Spaniard Juan Ayuso remains the overall leader.

In the fourth stage on Thursday, the professional cyclists will have to climb the 207-kilometer-long stage after the start in Arrone to the grassy plateau Valico di Castelluccio at an altitude of 1,521 meters.
